Day 14 - July 14, 2014

July 14, 2014

Hopped out of bed when the 6am alarm went off and hurried to get out of the cabin and on the road to our last chance at moose at Fishercap Lake in Many Glacier. We reached the lake only find 6 other people beat us there. A group of 3 had hired a guide who is also a well known photographer from Whitefish, Mt. They left the lake at 8am with no sightings. The other couple had driven up from Whitefish and had been there since 5am and were leaving for breakfast after having to sighting either. Melodie and I stayed for another 30 minutes and no moose. Oh well, we HAD seen a moose from the boat ride but were hoping for horny meese for us to see. Even without the sighting, we took every opportunity for more photographs, as you can see.
In case you haven't seen any photos of me, I'm still kickin'. Many Glacier Lake.

Just love my macro camera setting at Fishercap.

And the stillness of the lake was a pleasant surprise.

I always enjoy photographing paths and this was ours down to Fishercap Lake
Stopped at St. Mary Lodge for a little wifi from the car and popped in to the gift shop to buy a red bus charm for my necklace. We then returned to the cabin after missing the breakfast hour at Rising Sun. We had more oatmeal with some cranberries and sliced almonds on top and, of course, coffee. But that wasn't what our taste buds had been ready for. Melodie, the good doobie, started blogging and playing with her photos and I, true to course, took a nap.

Nightmares galore! What's going on? Melodie falls down a funnel shape hole and I'm screaming at her and going nuts trying to figure out how to get her out.  Then we're in a car backing out of driveway and a young man who was traveling with us (who he is I've yet to determine) decides he wants to drive. He gasses it and we end up in a lake jumping out of the car as it sinks! Then we find ourselves in someone's house and I'm telling them they have to call Thrifty to get our car out of the lake. The old woman walks away and removes her wig and...THANK GOODNESS I WAKE UP! Good thing I don't have prophetic dreams!

We take a walk around the grounds on the hunt for a wildlife photo op but only the ground squirrels continue to be the ever-present animal.
Robins abound in Glacier

The back of our cabin near a cliff.

All cabins were built in the early 1900s and have no insulation but were positioned to take advantage of the mountain winds blowing through each one.

Cottonwood Tree

Hmmm. remember one of these? No phone, television, or internet available in the parks.
Dinner at Rising Sun, wifi at St. Mary Lodge, and back to the cabin to load up for an early morning drive on Going to the Sun Road to West Glacier tomorrow. The rain started as we went in for dinner and is still going at 9:30p. It's a nice spring shower that doesn't cause us to need rain gear, just a cover for our computers. We'll start with breakfast at Rising Sun since we're craving eggs, bacon, and toast.

Took a drive to St. Mary Lodge to abuse their wifi again and try to get some of our blogs published. Sat in the lobby for a couple hours and then drove back around 9:30p and saw two elk in the Two Dog Flats. Two Dog got its name because the wranglers needed two dogs in their bed roll to keep them warm in the winter.

Alarm set for 6am and the Going to the Sun Road lies ahead.
